Software projects

Applications I've designed and built while transitioning from 14 years in military technical operations to software development. Each project highlights a real problem, the stack I used, and what I learned along the way.

This portfolio itself is one example — a full-stack site with React, Express, Prisma, and PostgreSQL. Browse the cards below for the problem each project solves, the technologies involved, and links to code or live demos where available. Get email updates when a new project goes live.

Smart Sunrise Alarm Clock WIP previewWork in progress

Smart Sunrise Alarm Clock WIP

June 2026

Designed and developed a custom smart alarm clock to provide a more personalized wake-up experience than commercially available alternatives. Built around an Elecrow ESP32-P4 development board with an integrated touchscreen and an ESP32-C4 co-processor, the project is developed in C and C++ using the LVGL graphics library for the user interface. The alarm clock streams MP3 audio from an SD card, stores user preferences and playlists locally, and is being integrated with the Philips Hue API to gradually brighten a connected light, simulating a natural sunrise. The project also includes the design of a custom 3D-printed enclosure.

Excel Password Protection Remover

June 2025

Developed a Python application to automate the removal of password protection from selected fields in legacy Excel workbooks. Initially built as a command-line tool to strengthen my Python skills, the project was later expanded with a graphical user interface for improved usability. Users can select an input file, choose which worksheet elements to unlock, and save the modified workbook as a new file while preserving the original.

Wi-Fi Pool Heat Pump Controller

August 2024

Designed and built a custom IoT solution to remotely monitor and control my pool heat pump using an ESP8266-based controller and an ESP32 user station. Developed in C and C++, the project combined embedded programming, electronics, and 3D printing to create a custom control enclosure with buttons, LEDs, and a display. Initially, the system estimated the water temperature by measuring the temperature sensor's voltage. After discovering documentation on the heat pump's communication protocol, I integrated direct communication with the controller, enabling real-time monitoring and full remote control of the unit.
